The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that during the first quarter of 2013 U.S. households reduced their debt to the lowest level since 2006. Household debt fell by 1 percent to $ 11.2 trillion, down from a peak of $ 12.7 trillion in the third quarter of 2008. Specifically, mortgage debt and credit card debt both fell, to $ 7.93 trillion and $ 660 billion, respectively.
